If you can dry cloths outside in the air, then do it, tumble dryers are
expensive to run, more than 4 times the running cost of a washing machine.
In the UK, you will see an energy label,
and these things are C rated.
Although you can get gas powered dryers, which are cheaper to run, but
more costly to install. There are three types of cloth dryers I know off,
the Air vented tumble dryer, The Condenser tumble dryer, the Gas tumble
dryer and the new Heat pump dryer.
- Air Vented tumble dryer.
The air is heated by electrical elements and the moist unwanted air is
blown outside, so you need a large hole in the wall.
- Condenser tumble dryer.
The air is heated by electrical elements, but the moist air is condensed
by a cooling unit, water collected in a tank.
- Gas tumble dryer
A gas burner heats the air, you will need a large hole to blow out the
unwanted moist air. More expensive to install.
- Heat pump dryer
A new type of dryer, more energy efficient, these have heat exchanges,
so re-use the heat that would normally be wasted.
