When
we use the word percolator, it generally refers to a coffee percolator.
There are two types of percolators. The first forces boiling water under
pressure through the coffee into a separate chamber, while the second
continually cycles the brew through the coffee using gravity until the right
strength is reached.
In a coffee percolator, the water is heated to nearly boiling, which
causes it to bubble up through the stem and then to down into the coffee,
through the holes in the basket, and into the pot. You need to cleat out the
residue from the basket regular, and clean the pot too.
There are de-scalers available for these products to keep them free from
a scale build up, like kettles they will stop working if clogged up.
Percolators have gone a long way, today you will find multi use ones that
can make Espresso, Cappuccino and more.
Common repairs to coffee makers include servicing the on/off switch,
thermostat, heating element, and warming element.
