Landfill

photo of Seagulls at a Landfill siteLandfill sites, are places were all our rubbish is buried, naturally they only want the good stuff, as later they may want to build on the land, so they want us to take out the stuff that can be re-used. Landfill sites are suppose to be regulated with strict standards laid down in law....

The hole where the rubbish is buried first has a membrane made of clay or plastic lined in it, this will prevent contaminants leaking out?. When the hole is full its covered over with earth and left to rot, however rotting material will produce gas like Methane, at some sites they even use the gas to generate electricity.

For some reason, some people say we shouldn't produce waste at all?, and to add insult to injury the government introduced a landfill tax back in 1996, the tax is collected by the site company and is charged to everyone that tips waste there.

These days when you visit a tipping ground you have to sort out all your rubbish, wood in one location, garden waste in another, and before long they will introduce a card system, where only residence of the local tip can visit, keeping out people from other locations, so if your living in one city, but the tip of another city is closer, you wont be able to use it.

We will all have a reduction in out council/community charge wont we?
